SPRING FLING MAILING A FUN SUCCESS AGAIN!

View IMG_2107.JPG in slide show

Saturday morning, January 7, saw a group of Duke City club members hard at work in the ASDC hall, folding, colating, stuffing, sealing, stamping, and labeling the mass mailing for this year's SPRING FLING festival, which will take place in early May.  With donuts and coffee to fortify them, they made short work of the massive project to ready the hundreds of pieces of mail with an assembly line of hands.  And when all was done, there were always the last few remains of donuts to have to eat!  Gosh, they couldn't just throw them away!  Good job, Dukes, and thanks!!

DUKE CITY STEALS OUR BANNER BACK FROM HI VALLI SWINGERS CLUB

August 7 found 13 Duke City Single members up in Monta Vista, CO, stealing back our club banner from the Hi Valli Swingers Square Dance Club.  They came to Albuquerque for our last Fling 2010 and stole our banner then.  So, in the fine tradition of square dancing, we drove up to "get it back!"  The Hi Valli Swingers gave us a royal welcome with a potluck dinner and a whole evening of VERY ENERGENIC dancing.  And there were some folks there from Texas, who had more energy than a room full of cats!   We all danced and danced, had a GREAT time, and even stopped at the local Dairy Queen for some late-night calories.  All in all, it was a super weekend!  Thank you to all who made the trip and the dance!!

A  COSTUMED
HALLOWEEN
 DANCE

Our club's Halloween Dance, on October 28, was filled with costumed club members and guests - all pictured above.  There were folks dressed all the way from pumpkins to Egyptian queens!  It was quite a sight on the dance floor to see ghosts to black cats.  Everyone enjoyed the event with lots of Halloween treats to go around.

OUR ANNUAL
CHRISTMAS
BUFFET & PARTY

On Saturday, December 3, the Duke City Singles again hosted their annual Christmas buffet-party with the Crazy 8 club members.  It again was held at the Abq. Meadows 55+ Community, 7112 Pan American Freeway, Abq., the same place as last year.  Festivities began at 5 PM.  Ham and turkey and side dishs from everyone provided more food than we needed.  The Duke's club caller, Jerry Gilbreath,  MC'd the event and provided (non-square) dancing music after the buffet for everyone's holiday dancing enjoyment.
Santa Claus even showed up and handed out candy canes with the help of his elf!  It was another wonderful Christmas party with friends and fellowship from the square dance community!!

Remember Our 2011 Club
Christmas Project:
Canned Fruit for the food pantry!

Please bring canned fruit to Friday night dances now until  the last dance before Christmas.  There will be a box for the collections just inside the dance floor.  John Foley will take these donations to the Storehouse food pantry to help out with a better balanced diet for folks in need! Please remember those in need this holiday season!  Thanks!

ROAD TRIP TO EL DORADO DEPOT

On September 9, 2011, a few of the Duke City Singles club members traveled NORTH past Santa Fe to the community of El Dorado, where a small but growing square dance club lives.  Our club was dark because of the Round Dance Weekend Festival at ASDC so we thought it was a good time to go to the Friday night dance of the Depot Dancers Club.  Although it was a coldish and rainy night, five of us braved the elements and the long drive to join in friendship with fellow dancers.  We had three squares on the floor the entire evening, and Delbert Teeble called a rousing night's dance!!  We all had a long drive back home, but it was well worth the effort to mingle with our northern neighbor club.  Thank you, Depot Dancers for a fun evening!!
